Why do ants enter houses?

Ants come inside looking for food, water and shelter — usually from an outdoor nest.

Educational article · [author / reviewer]

Ants enter homes seeking food, water and shelter. Indoor trails usually trace back to an outdoor nest, which is why treating only the visible trail rarely lasts — the colony remains and simply finds another route.

Sweet, sticky residues, pet food, crumbs and even water from a dripping tap are enough to attract foraging ants. Reducing these attractants is the first step.

Lasting control means addressing the colony at its source, typically with targeted baiting that foraging ants carry back to the nest, plus perimeter treatment to reduce re-entry.
